The White Tiger is the worst piece of shit I’ve seen in years. If I was Indian – especially an urbanite Indian – I would have shut it off after two minutes. But I’m not, so I shut it off after a mind-numbing, excruciating 45 minute sensory assault that caused me to roll my eyes more times than whenever I hear Kellyanne Conway speak.
The movie is a putrid cauldron overflowing with Miramax schmaltz and every rancid Indian stereotype, trope and archetype that white folks and non-Indians have of India set to Panjabi MC bhangra.
It’s no wonder the movie is a number one hit across the globe. It’s the India everyone is comfortable seeing.
The fact that critics darling filmmaker, Ramin Bahrani of Chop Shop fame directed this schlock is further evidence that small-budget, indie filmmakers are completely incapable of juggling big budget, big concept films. Case in point, Whale Rider‘s Niki Caro’s godawful Mulan.
What a mess.
