I refuse to watch the psychological thriller everyone and their dadi is raving about on account of yes, its principal actors.
- Kangana Ranaut | Like many out there, my love affair with the three-three National Award winner, Kangana Ranaut, ended sometime around the theatrical release of Marnikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi when Ranaut, it was founded, strong-armed her way to the director’s chair months before the film’s release and cut everyone’s scenes out (many of these actors were counting on the film to be their big break). More alarmingly, the film’s modus operandi was not, as once was thought, to tell the heroic story of the Indian warrior queen who warded off British colonialist forces but to bolster genocidal, far-right Hindutva ideologies that are currently plaguing India. In recent months, Kangana Ranaut has gone on a self-destructive, hateful rampage, attacking everyone in plain sight (including non-nepotistic stars like Taapsee Pannu). Yes, the impossibly talented, fearless actress we all loved has gone off the deep end thus begging the question, “What the Parveen Babi is going on with her?!”
- Rajkummar Rao | I still fucking love Rao as much as the next guy but that’s the problem – all the adoration he’s gotten from everyone (and I mean everyone) in the past two-three years has gone straight to his head and he’s now developed this smugness that’s very off-putting. He’s become insufferable. Will still watch his films though. Of all the actors who have deigned Indian multiplexes, he remains one of the finest.
