When I, or probably anyone for that matter, thinks of Bollywood, the phrase “ZIG A ZIG AH” doesn’t exactly come to mind.
But one of the 90’s pop sensation Spice Girls indeed tried her hand in India’s largest film industry a decade and change ago, starring in films alongside Bollywood royalty like Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia and Anil Kapoor.
And no, surprisingly enough, it wasn’t the wild child Mel B, or the totally bonkers Geri Halliwell who decided to really Spice Up Her Life but rather the demure Emma Bunton a.k.a. Baby Spice.
Bunton starred in two Bollywood pictures in 2005 – Pyaar Mein Twist and Chocolate. Neither of the films were successful per se but they enabled the seemingly safe Spice Girl to appear way more adventurous than she let on.
Although it isn’t clear what prompted Bunton to put the brakes on her two year Bollywood stint, I suspect it’s because the following year saw all the Girls reunite for a Greatest Hits album and tour, the likes of which wouldn’t give her anytime to commit to more Bollywood projects.
Had she pursued her stint further, whom do you reckon she would’ve paired well with? I’d say Abhay Deol, they’ve both got that wholesome, ladkhi/ladkha next-door thing going on, don’t they?
