In 2019, a nauseating selfie of Zionist* war criminal, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the creme-de-la-crap of Bollywood (Vivek Oberoi, Karan Johar, Sara Khan etc.) went viral on social media.
It was taken at an event the Zionist Prime Minister attended in Bombay called “Shalom Bollywood”, an official outreach event orchestrated by the Zionist government and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi- whose party, quelle surprise, shares a toxic, sectarian agenda to Netanyahu’s Likud party – to entice Bollywood to produce movies in the Occupied Territories.
Worrying reports were already surfacing at the time that Michael Oren, the Zionist ambassador to the US, conducted meetings with the heads of the biggest and most powerful Bollywood studios including Dharma Productions, Red Chillies Entertainment and Yash Raj Films
“I really want to get into Bollywood. I was in Mumbai and met with a number of directors and producers to try to convince them to come and film in Israel. Israel has much to offer the Indian film market, we have got great beaches, mountains, old cities, new cities. We have 100,000 Israelis of Indian ethnicity so we have much to offer.” Oren told DNA India back in 2017.
True to the Zionist Entity’s conniving and imperialistic nature, these highly publicized meetings weren’t only meant to further the Zionist Entity’s economic interests but to also shore up support abroad for its military industrial complex. Oren took to Twitter (now X) during his India trip to declare the “goal” of his visit – “create Israeli jobs and fight the BDS [the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions movement]”. For those who are unaware, the BDS movement is a non-violent global movement meant to pressure the Zionist Entity to comply with international law – which it never has.
“Until the status quo significantly changes, the likelihood of another Bollywood film being filmed in the Occupied Territories is non-existent.”
Much to Oren’s chagrin, despite his sheer tenacity, the only major studio picture to have been filmed in the Occupied Territories in the past seven years – i.e. since his highly publicized meetings with the big Bollywood machers took place – was the dead-on-arrival disaster, Drive. The film, which received a whopping 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, was so bad that its producer, Karan Johar (one of the aforementioned dumbasses pictured with Netanyahu in that selfie) decided against its theatrical release and instead sold it to Netflix in fear of it bombing in the box office.
No other Bollywood film has been filmed there since and, until the status quo significantly changes, no other Bollywood film probably ever will.
Unlike its slightly more daring and vocal sister city, Hollywood, Bollywood is a shameless conformist that has no mind of its own. When it comes to hot button topics such as Israel/Palestine, Bollywood will always without question side with the popular consensus. Hence, it came as no surprise that, for the first eight months of Gaza’s genocide, while the world was ablaze with anger, Bollywood remained heartlessly quiet so as not to incur the toddler-esque wrath of Modi supporters (who, let’s face it, are siding with Israel only because they hate Muslims).
Actors like Kareena Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, only began opening their mouths when it became totally safe and fashionable to do so, when the phrase “All Eyes on Rafah” was shared by over 45 million Instagram users including the world’s biggest A-list celebrities like Ariana Grande and Katy Perry. Then and only then did Bollywood feel comfortable to jump on the ever-expanding anti-Israel bandwagon.
The Zionist Entity was not a globally maligned pariah state at the time of Drive‘s release but it thankfully is now. Hence, it’s safe to say that a Bollywood partnership with the Zionist Entity remains firmly and unequivocally off the table.
